Land Clearing
Before any construction can begin, the land must be properly prepared. Our land clearing services range from selectively thinning underbrush for aesthetic purposes to complete clear-cutting and stumping for major commercial developments.
Service Overview
Raw land in North Georgia typically means dense hardwood timber, heavy underbrush, and root systems that extend deep into the red clay subsoil. Clearing this land for construction requires more than just cutting trees - it demands a systematic approach that addresses everything from timber value to stump removal to erosion prevention. At Addison Excavations, we coordinate the full clearing process: we fell timber directionally for safety and efficiency, process brush through on-site burning where county ordinances allow, coordinate approved off-site disposal when needed, and most critically, fully excavate every stump and root ball with our heavy excavators. Stump grinding alone leaves decomposing wood underground that creates voids and sinkholes - a serious risk beneath foundations, driveways, and future build areas. We also offer selective clearing for homeowners who want to preserve mature specimen trees while opening up buildable area and sight lines.
Key Capabilities
Our Process
Boundary Marking & Tree Flagging
We walk the property with you and your surveyor to identify property lines, mark trees to preserve, and flag any utilities, easements, or buffer zones that must be protected.
Timber Felling & Brush Removal
Our operators directionally fell trees using excavators and track loaders, then push brush and timber into burn piles or coordinate approved disposal depending on local burn regulations.
Stump Excavation & Grubbing
Every stump and root ball is fully excavated from the ground - not ground - to eliminate future sinkholes. The resulting holes are backfilled and compacted with clean fill material.
Site Stabilization
Once clearing is complete, we install silt fencing and seed disturbed areas to meet erosion control requirements, leaving you with a clean, stable site ready for the next phase of construction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you grind stumps or dig them out?
For construction sites, we always dig the stumps out completely with an excavator. Stump grinding leaves the root system underground to rot, which creates soft spots and sinkholes over time - a massive liability if you are pouring concrete or laying a foundation.
What do you do with the debris?
Depending on local ordinances and the size of the lot, we typically push the brush and stumps into piles and conduct controlled, permitted burns. If burning is not an option, we discuss approved disposal options during the estimate.
Can you clear steep or rocky terrain?
Yes. Our track loaders and excavators are designed to operate safely on the steep, rocky terrain common throughout North Georgia.
